Is this safe for my toddler to use on their own?

Yes. Mzansi Mates is sized and weighted for little hands, with a wide mouth and BPA-free lid options so there's nothing toxic touching your child's mouth. Because it's stainless steel rather than plastic, it also won't crack or splinter if it's dropped — which, with toddlers, it will be.

What is it made of?

18/8 food-grade stainless steel with a durable powder-coated finish on the outside, and a double-wall vacuum insulation layer in between. The powder coat is what gives each animal design its grip and colour, and it's built to handle daily nursery and car-seat life.

Will it keep drinks cold on a hot day?

Yes — up to 24 hours cold or 12 hours hot thanks to the double-wall vacuum insulation. The exterior also stays dry and cool to the touch (no condensation puddles in the car seat, no hot spots for little hands).

Is it leak-proof for a nappy bag or lunch box?

The lids are leak-proof and BPA-free. We offer a few lid styles (see our Lids collection).

How do I clean it?

The lid is top-rack dishwasher safe. We'd recommend hand-washing the stainless steel body with warm soapy water and a bottle brush to protect the powder-coated finish long-term — avoid abrasive scourers.

Which animal should I choose?

Every Mzansi Mates bottle features a main “mate” plus supporting characters, so kids get to know a little cast rather than a single mascot. If your toddler already loves an animal (or you want to start a collection), that's the easiest way to pick.

Orders are processed within 2-4 business days (not shipped on weekends or public holidays).

South Africa: Free shipping on orders over R1,000. Orders under R1,000 ship for a flat R150. Delivery takes 3-7 business days from dispatch.

International: We ship worldwide. Rates are calculated at checkout, and delivery takes 7-21 business days from dispatch depending on destination and customs. Import duties and taxes are the customer's responsibility.

You have 30 days from delivery to request a return for a change of mind. Items must be unused, in their original condition and packaging, with proof of purchase.

For change-of-mind returns, return shipping is at the customer's cost. If an item arrives defective, damaged, or incorrect, we cover the return shipping and provide a full refund or replacement.

Approved refunds are issued to your original payment method within 5-10 business days. Gift cards, final sale items and personalised or custom-made products can't be returned.

Changes and cancellations: You may request to cancel a pre-order and receive a full refund at any time before it ships. Once a pre-ordered item has shipped, our standard Refund Policy applies.

Delays: Occasionally a pre-order may take longer than expected to arrive due to factors outside our control, such as production delays, customs, or shipping disruptions. If this happens, we'll contact you with an update, and you'll always have the option to cancel for a full refund.
